Worry

What are the ‘things’ you worry about?  Is it your finances, career, children, or your future?  What about what others think about you?  The list could go on and on about the various worries each of us have in our lives.  The original Greek word for worry literally means to have a ‘divided mind, or to divide into parts.’

Worry consumes

Worry steals

Worry captivates

Worry controls

Worry destroys

Worry kills

Do you ever wonder if you can get rid of the worry in your life or is it consuming you and you don’t know what to do?  I want to share a couple thoughts which hopefully will be helpful overcoming the worries in your life.

In Matthew 6:24-34, Jesus is teaching those who were gathered around him about not needing to worry.  He had just been teaching them about money and how we cannot serve both God and money at the same time.  It is one or the other. (the choice is yours)  He then proceeds to teach about worry.   Worry is often misplaced trust.  People don’t trust God or they don’t know how to.  Jesus leaves a clue in verse 33 regarding how to overcome worry.

vs. 33- “Seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you.”

1.  Seek His Kingdom

The first key in overcoming worry is to seek God’s Kingdom.  The Kingdom of God is the King’s Domain.   Where He dwells.  To seek His Kingdom involves action.

2.  Talk about them.

Be honest with yourself.  Acknowledge worries and have people pray for you.  Confession is a powerful principle.  As you confess your worries, you break the power and control it has over your life.

3.  Gain Perspective

Perspective is everything.  Ask yourself tough questions.  Sometimes people major on the minors.  Gaining a clear perspective of your situation can help you overcome your worries.

Can you add to this list?
