Routine

I have never been one too big on developing a routine. I know they have incredible value and can be very helpful to people, but I have found it difficult to establish them on a consistent basis. Having a routine can be helpful in so many ways. When we first had our daughter Nola, we had no idea what we were doing. We struggled as new parents and were desperate to do anything to stop Nola from being so fussy. It wasn’t until Jamie read a book and realized how important it was for us to put Nola on a schedule. In other words, we needed to come up with a daily routine for Nola that would help her and us. As soon as we started her on the new ‘schedule’ we began to notice changes immediately. How could this be? Anyways, the point I am trying to make is that it is important and helpful for us to develop and establish daily routines. Ever since I was diagnosed, we have made some significant changes to my daily routine. Everything about the way we live is different now. It has to be. What I eat, when I go to bed, what I do, is different now and it has to be. We are now creating new, healthy and helpful routines. One of my most favorite routines right now is in the morning when I get out of the shower. As you have heard me complain many times before in the past about how cold I always am, I have decided to establish a new ‘shower’ routine each day that helps my stay warm when I am getting out of the shower.

Before I even get in the shower, I place two towels on the floor to keep my feet warm. after placing the towels down, I reach for Jamie’s hair dryer. I place it on the counter and plug it in. I jump into the shower which is already extremely hot. I take care of business in the shower and now it is time to come out. Before I get out of the shower, I reach for the two towels that will be wrapped around my body to keep me warm. After wrapping myself up, I get out of the shower and head to the waiting hair dryer. I turn it on full blast and stand there for about 15 minutes drying my body with my wife’s blow dryer. Now you may find this a little silly, but don’t laugh too hard until you try it. There is something so incredibly amazing about warming your body with a blow dryer. It is my new favorite routine in our household.
