Reuben And The Dark

I love music! I love finding new music to listen to. Reuben And The Dark is a new band I came across the other day, and I have really enjoyed listening to the album, Funeral Sky. More about the band from the CBC:

“Calgary’s Reuben and the Dark is a collection of five multi-instrumentalists and vocalists led by Reuben Bullock. The group makes chilling, emotive folk and soul driven by dark, introspective lyrics that explore the duality of misery and joy.

Boasting a rare chemistry between all members across western Canada, Reuben and the Dark has emerged organically from Canada’s stellar independent scene on the strength of often anthemic compositions that translate the language of emotion into song with haunting clarity.

Their debut album is produced by the UK’s Chris Hayden (Florence & the Machine) and Canada’s Stephen Kozmeniuk (Madonna, Nicki Minaj, and The Game feat. Kanye West) and is being mixed by Jim Abbiss (Arctic Monkeys)

Here are a few of the songs I have enjoyed listening to:

Health Journey

What Do I Eat?

That is a question I get asked a lot. Prior to the diagnosis I ate horribly. I would eat chips, chocolates, and other snack type food on a regular basis. I thought it brought me comfort. Boy, was I ever wrong. On top of all that junk food, I drank a lot of Coke and other soda pops on a regular basis. I also drank copious amounts of coffee each day, with cream and sugar. Looking back on my eating habits, it is safe to say I had become a food addict. I was raised in a home where meat and potatoes was served quite often. For a very long time I considered myself a carnivore, but that has all changed since July 24, 2015. Today, my eating habits have changed quite drastically, and below I will share what I typically eat. I don’t eat all this food each day, theses are just some of the different foods I eat now.

1. Chia Pudding & Granola
2. Vegan French Toast
3. Fresh Fruit
4. Juice – I have juice at every breakfast.
5. Vegan Pancakes
6. Smoothies (lots to choose from)

1. Fresh Veggies (raw)
2. Cashews
3. Vegan Reuben
4. Juice
5. Fresh made guacamole
6. Soup ( lots of great recipes out there)
7. Smoothies

1. Soup
2. Juice
3. Black Beans
4. Chick Peas
5. Vegan wraps
6. Meatless chilli
7. Lettuce wraps
8. Fresh veggies (raw)
9. Guacamole
10. Salad
11. Smoothies

These are just some of the things I eat on a regular basis. I am very grateful for a wife who not only is an incredible cook, but she is much more aware of what we need to fill my body with the proper nutrients. Along with all the changes I have made, I have added a few plant based supplements.

Let me know if you have any questions?

Jamie and I would love to help in any way we can.

Journey Life

Bent But Not Broken

Here is the video I recorded explaining a little further the phrase, ‘bent but not broken.’

It’s A Battle

Everyday is a battle.

I find myself constantly being bombarded in my mind with negative thoughts. Many people struggle in their minds. The largest battlefield isn’t in the Middle East, for many of us it is our minds. If we aren’t careful, we could end up losing the battle. We need to be prepared.

Lately, I have found myself fighting my mental battles with my thoughts and words. Every time my mind fills up with negative thoughts, I do my best by filling my thought life with truth, and positivity. A couple of statements I have been telling myself are: “you will live, and not die,” and “bent but not broken.” These two little statements have been so life-giving. It is important for any of us to fill our mouths and our minds in the midst of our battles. These statements and others can be life-giving during turbulent times. May your words be your weapons when facing dark, and difficult times.

Life can be a battle. Fill your mouth with positive declarations, and fight!

What battles are you facing?

Are you prepared?
